Helsinki model projects

Towards a more equal city

The Cultural Office is developing a model for participatory local cultural work. The aim is to diversify and create a balance between the arts and cultural activities offered in various parts of the city. The Cultural Office wants to ensure that all Helsinki residents have access to culture.

Based on the Helsinki Model:
• Arts organisations and groups of professional artists are urged to step outside and work together with local residents and communities in various districts.
• Arts and cultural activities in districts are supported by creating new models together with local players and arts organisations.
• Residents and communities are encouraged to take a more active role in the arts and culture, instead of being mere spectators.
• Malmitalo, Kanneltalo, Stoa and Vuosaari House contribute actively to networking between local residents and players, offering their premises and know-how for participatory arts and cultural activities.

The Helsinki Model aims to reinforce community spirit and the positive profile of districts, while enhancing the cultural inclusion of residents. It also enables arts organisations to reach new audiences.
