Accessibility at Malmitalo
Malmitalo’s main entrance and lobby are fully accessible. In front of the building, there is an accessible ramp that leads to the door. Doors open automatically when they are approached.
The inside of the building is accessible, and the second floor can be accessed with a spacious lift. All public facilities of Malmintalo are accessible by wheelchair; however, please ask for advice if you wish to go to the Small Auditorium.
There are places for wheelchairs in spectator stands that must be got in advance. The number of spaces is limited. A carer is allowed to enter with you free of charge. Please remember to inform us about the carer when you contact us.
The noise levels at Malmitalo are monitored during performances. This is done to ensure that the levels stay within the permitted limits. The building managers will provide ear plugs free of charge.
Theatre haze, or ‘smoke’, may be used in Malmitalo performances. The Hazer liquid used is a fine hydrocarbon mineral oil designed to be used with the Phantom Hazer systems. The haze is safe, clean, non-toxic, naturally biodegradable and of good pharmaceutical quality. If you have heightened sensitivity, you may experience some redness in your eyes or skin irritation.
Both auditoriums have an induction loop for people with a hearing disability; there is also a mobile induction loop available to be used in other facilities. Please contact the doormen if you need assistance.
An accessible toilet is located in the main lobby and along the corridor leading to classrooms on the second floor. The doormen will provide further information.
Our front of the house staff are always at your service. You can contact a doorman by phone during the opening hours of the facility, tel. +358 40 3361598.
Drivers
If you arrive by car and you have a disabled parking permit, you are allowed to park your car close to the front of Malmitalo (this has been checked with the local traffic warden), as long as your car does not obstruct other traffic. For example, there is usually plenty of space in front of the adjacent white building, which is close to the ramp in front of Malmintalo. The address used in a navigator is Ala-Malmin tori 1.
